My work is grounded in function, has clean lines and simple decoration. It is designed for everyday use, decoration and special occasions. I look to nature and the human form for inspiration. It is important to me that my pots be useful and I've managed to make people smile by adding a bit of character.
I hand make every piece in my studio next to my home in Appleton, Maine. The majority of my work is thrown on the potter's wheel and then altered or decorated in some fashion. I use a white stoneware clay and fire to cone 6 (about 2200F) in an electric kiln. All of my work is functional, lead free, and dishwasher and microwave safe.
I learned to throw when I was 13 years old and have always taken as many clay classes as I could. Today I am a self taught studio potter. I opened my studio in January 2004 with the goal of employing myself doing something I love to do.
I have exhibited my work at Lincoln Street Center Gallery in Rockland, Maine and at various arts and craft shows around Maine including: -DIRECTIONS: Maine Crafts Guild, Mt. Desert Island Show 2005 & 2006 and Maine Audubon Show 2005 -Laudholm Nature Crafts Festival, Wells, ME 2005 - Arts in the Park, Belfast, ME 2005, 2006 -Harbor Juried Arts and Crafts Show, Camden, ME; Summer and Fall 2004, 2005 -Crafts at the Playhouse, Ogunquit, ME, 2004, 2005 -Designing Women, Bangor Show, 2004, 2005 -United Maine Craftsmen; Cumberland Crafts Show, Thanksgiving Craft Show, Holiday Crafts Show, 2004 -Boothbay Fall Foliage Festival, 2004 -Lincoln Street Center for the Arts and Education Annual Holiday Show and Sale; 2003, 2004, 2005
